Shakespeare Day
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more. It is a tale. Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.” The incomparable William Shakespeare was venerated once again during the Year 10 Shakespeare Day. Click here for more pics. |
Writing Week
Year 9 Writing Week culminates each year with a series of library displays showcasing a combination of visual creativity and wordsmithery. This year the week also coincided with the Creative Writing Evening where members of the Creative Writing club showcased their work to friends and family.

Fairgo Kids Ad Awards
After a lull of a year or two, some keen Year 9s resurrected the annual Newlands College entry into the Fairgo Ad Awards, earning a spot in the finals with this effort. The brief was to take something from the 70s and make it cool again.
Noscars
A perennial highlight of the school year, our annual short film showcase at the Embassy theatre gives students the chance to experience the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood premiere. Dressing up is de rigueur and the evening culminates with an Oscars style awards ceremony replete with cheesy awards hosts banter. 2017 featured a particularly strong lineup of short films (the best ever according to the Head Girl, Daphne Martinez!) Below are the two films who received the premiere awards of Best Film and Audience Choice. Go here for photos of the evening.
The Library by Nafeesa Shah and Annie Cheng. Best Film winner.

Sein Ben by Ben Murdoch. Audience Choice winner

Time Capsule
The fruit of nearly two years of planning, the final day of Term 3 marked the occasion of the burial of the Newlands College time capsule. Planned and orchestrated by Year 11 students Gabbi Conway and Calvin Keating as their Active Learning initiative, the time capsule will be opened on the College's 75th anniversary.
